Texas State: Staff scrambles after coaching change

The first-year head coach of the Texas State Bobcats was driving toward his home base in San Marcos after several days on the recruiting trail. On the trip, Wright and new assistant coach Ben Norton had been through Plano, Lufkin, Palestine and Humble. "Luckily I'm with one of my assistants," Wright said. "Ben's in charge of the road map." It's been a wild few weeks for Wright, promoted from an assistant to head coach on Jan.22. For the past three years, Wright had served as the top aide to David Bailiff with the Bobcats. That changed on Jan. 18 when Bailiff accepted the head coaching job at Rice. At the time, Wright was named interim coach and began preparing for a recruiting weekend. With the future of the program in question, a few players canceled their visits.
