I have never understood the value of firing a coach mid-season, especially in the NFL where the execution of the system is the top priority. As the seventh week of football starts, Jim Fassel of the Ravens and Keith Rowen of the Cardinals were both released from their respective positions of authority. Rowen was my former offensive line coach at the University of Arizona and I watched his career progress nicely over time. Fassel is the former head coach of the New York Giants and was good enough to bring the Giants to the Super Bowl, but not good enough to run the Ravens' offence. On a football team you have a head coach, coordinators and positional coaches. In modern football, the head coach has evolved into more of a designator then coach.
